This not my livingroom, but it is the same futon that I have. Why oh why did I buy this thing? In my previous post, I took a picture of my 'desk', and it got me thinking about the futon in front of it. How the 'bleep' do you make these things more comfortable? I have big pillows on the ends, and yet still manage to bonk my head on the metal arms daily. I have stubbed my toes on the metal legs, I have felt the metal bars beneith my butt when I haven't flipped the mattress in god knows how long. I bought it out of neccessety, at one time it was my bed/couch, but now I don't need it for duel purposes. I am to cheap to give it away, and can't afford to buy a big, comfy, flop my ass down couch. Even if I sold it, I wouldn't get much for it, soooo, how to make it more livable? I am a couch flopper, I don't sit, I curl up, or stretch out, but never sit. I have thought of buying a sheet of wood to put under the futon mattress, and then a chunk of foam to go inbetween (the wood should stop the foam from dropping through the metal bars), but in order to make it comfortable, I would probably end up buying a 12" deep foam, then it would be so high I would need a step ladder to climb up to, and of course I would inevitably end up stubbing a toe on the ladder! Oh dilema! All you futon owners out there,, HELPPPPP!

As a fellow dual purpose futon user I have also considered putting wood under it to keep the bars from jamming the butt...
Ours is in the living room cause our couch wont fit through the front or back door of our rental home. So we are stuck with the futon as a couch.
Have you considered freecycle to get yourself a flop worthy couch? If you find one you like then you can give your futon away on freecycle... Just an idea for you.
